SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION
 TO PARENTS AND AEE COMMUNITY

March 23, 2018

DEAR PARENTS AND AEE COMMUNITY:

The whole country was impacted recently by the loss of 17 lives in Parkland, Florida due to a senseless act of violence. We have also seen how other schools have been impacted by safety hazards and threats. At AEE we want to reassure all our parents and school community that the safety and security of our students and staff are FIRST!

Be it known that school administrators work closely with local law enforcement to ensure that we are monitoring and addressing potential issues that might impact student safety. All situations that could impact the safety of our students are taken seriously and could lead to disciplinary action and criminal charges.

On Friday, March 23rd, 2018 administration made the decision to suspend classes due to a threat made by one student to another using social media (threat was not made TO THE SCHOOL). We were advised by local law enforcement to take measures to guarantee our students and staff safety.

Be it known that AEE :

• Will work with local law enforcement to investigate all reports that could potentially result in harm to students or staff members.
• Will conduct school lockdown drills—much like the fire and tornado drills.
• IS PROHIBITING the use of CELL PHONES ON SCHOOL PREMISES AND BUSES. If any parent needs to communicate with their child, they can do so by calling the school offices—419-382-2280.
• WILL RESERVE THE RIGHT to inspect book bags, purses and lockers.
• Will have ALL VISITORS—including parents—sign-in at the school office and receive a pass—this includes parents.
• Will investigate every threat made against one of our students and/or staff members. Disciplinary action will be taken –including EXPULSION—if proven to be true. These are serious offenses and can also lead to criminal charges.

We encourage all students, staff members and parents who see an inappropriate post on social media or hear anything that could lead to harm of others, to report it immediately so it can be investigated and addressed properly—IF YOU HEAR OR SEE SOMETHING—SAY SOMETHING BEFORE ITS TOO LATE.

Our staff members are engaged and committed to the academic achievement of our students. At AEE we work tirelessly to provide both a safe learning and work environment for students and employees. We request parents to please supervise closely your children social media, text messages and messenger. Many of the issues that schools are handling start on social media –and parents must have a control over this.

We need to work together to avoid tragedies as the one lived recently in schools around our country.

Cordially yours,

Dr. Israel I. Koppisch                             Ann Harris
School Leader                                        Superintendent
